prepper themed 30th birthday party

My husband turned 30 earlier this year! And as you can see, I chose a slightly unusual theme for his birthday bash. Because I love a good creative challenge. And those that know him know this theme is oh so fitting.

What is a prepper you ask? It is an individual or group preparing for armageddon—in whichever form it comes. Common preparations in case of but not limited to natural disasters, chemical or nuclear war, economic collapse, global pandemic, and oppressive government.

Above right is staged a look out tower (so you can see the enemy far out) and a generator for power outages.

The party favors were mini fire starter kits in plastic test tubes. You. Never. Know.

Scattered around were these mylar bags (for long term food storage) that I labeled with titles such as "dehydrated ammo" and "dehydrated razorwire".

Weapons cache is a total must.

Other details include the canned food stacks, military trunks stacked as food tables, a jar of crisco as the birthday candle (which would burn for 45 DAYS), and bbq sauces labeled Pandemic Sweet Heat & Radioactive Hickory Smoke. Overall, the cost was relatively low (we owned most of the "decor") but the challenge was taking the theme from concept to party elements.

Does anyone know a conspiracy theorist that would appreciate this party? Too weird or kinda fun? If anything there is credit for ingenuity, right?!

10 year high school reunion

It is the week of anniversaries. Currently, I'm away traveling to my 10 Year High School Reunion. It's safe to say, I'm the ONLY person I know who LOVES this kind of thing. And I have no idea why.

Above are the reunion invites I designed for the shindig. Yes, our mascot was the camel. In the middle of Wyoming—this makes perfect sense.

I love how non-stodgy they turned out because most reunions are pretty boring, right? Originally, at the top I had the line "It's time to procrastinate, start some drama, stereotype, and judge your classmates" and then on the bottom "Reminisce on the days before instant streaming, Facebook, vegans, and Beber fever" because I thought/think these were/are hilarious. Both lines were cut. A little too much honesty I suppose.

While digging threw my memory box, I found these classic Throw-Back-Thursday treasures. Apparently I loved collages and quotes, along with snowboarding and stiff senior poses. Oh, nostaliga I heart thee.

Do I have any reunion sympathizers out there? Or haters?

I had so much fun with the reunion invites, I added them to my Etsy shop. In case any future reunion committee members emerge from this post.

neon surprise party ::: 30th birthday

Soooo one of my many flaws is good intentions combined with a bit of forgetfulness. Namely, not posting projects because I intend to submit them to other blogs someday...and then forget that was my plan.

I now present to you a party that was styled a while ago.

Remember these amazing party invitations I posted? (No, of course you don't because that was forever ago.)

Neon. Confetti. Subtle Mexican Fiesta nuance.

The food served was a nacho bar and a gorgeous chevron cake. Yum.

One of the activities was that each guest filled out a favorite memory with the birthday girl, totalling 30 envelopes of memories.

And a incredible, ginormous, teal, pentagon piñata. Full of more confetti!

And a paper chain photobooth backdrop with metallic balloons and playful props.

A mess to clean up means great times were had. Yay friend collaborations to celebrate a friend in style!

What do you think, is this a fun way to help a friend over the hill?

neon valentine

Time for a great start to another week! We are heading into the season of love, so I've been working on a little project.

It's a fun collection of love notes for my shop! And I've made an option for customizing the poems/quotes and adding names/initials to the back page. Wouldn't they be so sweet scattered through out the house? Or tucked in places like a lunchbox...

I think I'm most obsessed with the mini binder clips I used on our Christmas cards. Too cute! And printing on chipboard—my latest design craze. But I also like the neon colors instead of the traditional Valentine reds/pinks. (So actually there is a lot I like about these). What do you like most? Any sweet Valentine ideas you've been tossing around for this year?

ombre pinata cookie

Oh ya know, another practical/easy/purposeful diy project! (Not in any way. Even a little bit.)

And timely. (I made these for my 28th birthday 3+ months ago.)

But sometimes you just want to do something because it's pretty and pointless and takes forever. Yes, that is what I wanted for my birthday. Aaaaaaannnnd there's a surprise....!

BAM. Take that blog world. Yep. Pinterest, I will own you.

Just wanted to give you a some pointless trend-candy. A labor of love, emphasis on the labor. Pin away, folks!

Oh. And if you want to even consider making such silly piñata cookies—you can find the original instructions by Sandra Denneler for She Knows right here. If you are wanting to make them for Cinco de Mayo, you might want to start soon.

I'm needing a little color today as I've spent the last 5 hours researching party concepts and proposals. Gorgeous paintings to browse through here. You won't be disappointed.

And next I need a little computer break...

If I had a chunk of time with nothing to do, I'd like to spend it painting with watercolor. It's always been a favorite medium. And these birch trees are just lovely.

Saw this pin and my heart smiled. Such amazing work. I'm still recovering from a terrible fever-like bug that hit me yesterday. ICK. But hopefully rest tomorrow and then a BBQ yay! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
